Finland's first Museum Game Jam From Stories to Games project by the Finnish Museums Association is working hard on autumn events and training. Finland’s first ever Museum Game Jam will be held in Tampere at the Vapriikki museum centre together with the Finnish Game Museum and Finnish Game Jam on November 7-8, 2018. During the event, game developers and museum professionals create games together utilizing the materials and stories provided by museums.
Training, blog posts and new games
The final seminar of the project is also in the works. The event, which will take place in Helsinki on December 12, 2018, will bring forward the results of the project. It’s also possible to test the games developed during the project. One topic for discussion are the possibilities of cooperation between the museums and the gaming industry.
From Stories to Games project publishes a series of blog posts (in Finnish) that have already covered five games, as well as told about museums and stories. During the autumn, the blog series will post about game development, collaborations between museums and game developers, and experiences from the Museum Game Jam.
The project has developed games in four pilot museums. The game topics include: time-travelling in City of Kajaani’s Town Hall; performing calculations on Finland's first computer, ESKO; diving into nightmares in artist Suvi Solkio's work Painajaisista paksu peite (A thick cover from nightmares, 2011); and building the Turkansaari church log by log.
